Phillips Kuhl

President, Cambridge Healthtech Institute

 

Phillips KuhlPhillips Kuhl is the co-founder of CHI, and has been president of the company since the company began in 1992. Phillips has been responsible for the steady and profitable growth of the business to its current scope of organizing 100 conferences and tracks during the current fiscal year, all focused on biotechnology and pharmaceutical issues. During 2006 CHI acquired Bio-IT World, a leader in print and electronic publishing covering the implications of informatics and IT for better decision-making for biological and pharmaceutical research. At the beginning of 2007 the reports unit was re-integrated into CHI and rebranded as Insight Pharma Reports. Prior to CHI, Phillips spent three years developing the Life Science Division of conferences for IBC US. His prior experience also includes senior positions in consulting, market research and an operating position in a life science company, covering eleven years. Phillips received his BA in Economics and in Russian Studies from Haverford College and his MBA from Harvard Business School.

Kevin Davies

Editor-In-Chief, Bio-IT World


Kevin DaviesKevin is the founding Editor-in-Chief of Bio-IT World, the monthly magazine published by Cambridge Healthtech Media Group covering technology and predictive biology in biopharma.Kevin has worked in science publishing since 1990, when he joined the staff of Nature magazine. In 1992, Kevin founded the spin-off publication Nature Genetics, which quickly established itself as the world’s leading genetics and genomics journal. He subsequently spent three years as the science editor at the Howard Hughes Medical Institute headquarters in Chevy Chase, Maryland, the largest medical research institute in the United States. Prior to launching Bio-IT World, Kevin served as editor-in-chief of Cell Press, helping to conceive and launch several new journals including Cancer Cell.

Kevin took an MA in biochemistry at Oxford University and earned his Ph.D in molecular genetics from the University of London. He held two postdoctoral research positions at MIT and Harvard Medical School before moving into publishing.

Kevin is also the author of two popular science books. Published by The Free Press in 2001, Cracking the Genome was an accessible and comprehensive account of the conclusion of the Human Genome Project. It was translated into 15 languages. He also co-authored (with Michael White) Breakthrough: The Race to Find the Breast Cancer Gene (John Wiley, 1994). Kevin is currently working on a new book entitled “The $1000 Genome.”

Edel O’Regan, Ph.D

Vice President of Conference Production

 

Edel O'ReganEdel has managed the production and scientific content of CHI’s conferences since 2001.  Since then she has successfully directed the growth of CHI’s conference portfolio from 50 to over 100 events per year, positioning CHI as the world leader in life science conferences. Prior to joining CHI, she conducted research at the Imperial Cancer Research Foundation in London, and at Northeastern University in Boston. Edel holds a Ph.D. in Biochemistry from the University of Ireland, Cork.

Jim MacNeil


Vice President of Marketing

 

Jim MacNeilJim MacNeil has been with Cambridge Healthtech Institute since its inception in 1992. He has fifteen year's conference marketing, promotion planning and database building experience. Prior to joining CHI he worked on marketing initiatives for the World Economic Development Congress. His current responsibilities include managing a department of 17 marketing professionals, overseeing the marketing strategy behind CHI's 100+ conferences and corporate brand. As head of strategic marketing he oversees event branding, direct mail and email-marketing design, planning and execution as well as heads corporate marketing initiatives. Jim received his B.S.B.A. with a concentration in marketing from Northeastern University in Boston, Massachusetts.




Angela Parsons

Vice President of Business Development

 

Angela ParsonsAs Director of Business Development, Angela established the CHI Telesales Department and is responsible for sponsor and exhibit sales for CHI conferences and publications. Prior to CHI, she worked at NMHCC as VP Strategic Solutions for large-scale healthcare events, and at such companies as Hamamatsu, Parker Hannifin, and the Stride Rite Corporation. Angela holds a Bachelors Degree in Business Administration from Bentley College.





Shauna Samson

Director of Human Resources

 

Shauna SamsonShauna has a Bachelor's degree in Chinese Studies & French literature from Wellesley College and a Master's in Clinical Social Work from Boston University. Her graduate and post-graduate clinical work focused on individual and group therapy with children and families through Germaine Lawrence School and Judge Baker Children's Center. She started her career change to the human resources field as a staffing specialist at North Shore Medical Center, where she was responsible for recruiting healthcare staff, conducting diversity training, and instituting a career training and development program for Welfare-to-Work grant recipients. Shauna is currently the H.R. director at CHI.




Janette Mandile – Harper

Director of Meeting Planning

 

Janette MandileJanette Mandile-Harper, has been a member of the meetings industry for over 15 years. Since 1998, she has been in her current position as Director of Meeting Planning for Cambridge Healthtech Institute, and has been responsible for producing meetings around the globe. Prior to CHI, she held a position as Conference Manager for (NMHCC) National Managed Health Care Congress and before that held many other positions in the hotel and restaurant business, totaling 20 years in the hospitality industry. Janette earned a Bachelor of Science and Associates of Science degrees in Hotel/Business Administration from the University of New Hampshire.




Al Doig

General Manager, Life Science Reports

 

Al DoigAl is a biotech veteran having held positions in large and small, public, private and non-profit organizations.  For the five years prior to joining CHI’s Insight Pharma Reports, Al was Research Director at Informa’s Drug & Market Development Reports.

Al earned MS degrees in Health Sciences and Biochemical Engineering from Northeastern University and MIT, respectively.

Al is also the author of numerous articles, research reports and book chapters as well as a presenter at many conferences

Ben Patel

Chief Financial Officer

 

Ben PatelHas worked in the finance-related fields since graduating out of the University of London, England. Originally from East Africa, Ben has been with CHI for three years.








Naila Ganatra

General Manager, Barnett Educational Services

 

Naila GantraNaila Ganatra joined Barnett in 1996 and has over 12 years of pharmaceutical, medical device and biotechnology training and programming experience. She is responsible for the daily oversight and management of Barnett International, including the training consulting, live seminars, web seminars, eLearning and publications business lines.  She has planned and overseen multiple training events that have been attended by thousands of industry professionals, and has played an instrumental role in the development of Barnett’s training consulting programs. Naila’s healthcare career spans a 15 year timeframe in training and clinical research administration and includes positions with major medical centers and training providers, including Cedars Sinai Medical Center, the Harvard School of Public Health/Beth Israel Hospital, Baystate Medical Center and International Business Communications.

 

 Rich Handy

Senior Director of Marketing
 

Rich HandyRich Handy is the Senior Director of Marketing, and has been at CHI for more than 15 years (since 1995). He is responsible for the day to day operation of the marketing department. Promoting, planning and driving event and product revenues are his key initiatives. Prior to joining CHI, Rich was the Director of Marketing for the Keystone Symposia on Molecular and Cellular Biology for four years. Rich was also a Senior Direct Mail Supervisor for the USPS for five years. With over 22 years experience in biotech/biomed conference and event promotion, Rich has helped plan, manage, market, brand, and deliver more than 500 meetings to the scientific and business communities.
