Course Description

In an environment that is ever-changing with organizational mergers, role revisions, and an emphasis on risk-based oversight approaches, the need for better communication skills and comfort with change is essential. The focus of this course is to enhance communication skills and support personal development while building stronger team relationships in clinical research settings. This course is designed to demonstrate and reinforce techniques such as prioritization, greater effectiveness, flexibility to support work-life balance, communication, and focusing on becoming leaders in our individual areas. Self-evaluation and consideration of “why” we react to things the way we do and how we can implement change will be addressed through various activities. These skills are valuable in addressing many of the everyday stresses faced by those in the clinical research industry.

Course Outline

Day One: 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

  • Introduction: The Imperative for Change:  Talent Trends in the Industry; Common Challenges of Clinical Research Professionals; Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) Interpretation
  • Module 1: First Things First - Proactivity and Prioritization:  Being Deliberate; Proactive Language; Prioritization and Time Management - Quadrant II
  • Module 2: Communicator:  Fostering Trust and Credibility with Stakeholders; Active Listening - a Leader's Most Powerful Tool; Increasing Self-Awareness; Win-Win Thinking; Influencing without Authority; Managing Conflict; Transforming Relationships

Day Two: 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

  • Module 3: Accountability & Professionalism: Accountability - Mindset and Behaviors; Pride and Professionalism
  • Module 4: Problem Solving: Problem Solving Mindset; Problem Solving Framework; Change Management
  • Module 5: Leading Teams through Change: Team Development Stages; Alignment and Collaboration; Tips for getting your teams to Performing

Interactive Activities

  • Team identification of challenges
  • Individual identification of management style goal
  • Active listening starting with a problem statement
  • Identifying challenges and risks in daily role and proactive management techniques
  • Learning journal: To be repeated at end of each module to identify personal goals and objectives after each section
  • Team identification of risks related to upcoming changes and approaches for proactive management and communication
  • Leadership challenges and identification of what makes a leader: Teams answer questions related to what makes a “good” leader
  • Scenario reviews and solutions based on effective communication and follow through
  • Group Root Cause Analysis (RCA) with 5 Whys and Fishbone Diagram
  • Communication issues: How to do a basic task

Registration fees include assorted breakfast items that will be available each day ½ hour prior to the start of the seminar. Also included is a Networking Lunch that will be served each training day.

Accreditation Information
